Description
Very interesting and rarely found piece of US Navy rebreather equipment. Made by Mine Safety Appliances Company or MSA this rebreather was made for use in blimps, aka non-rigid airships. Issued to aircrews during the 1930s and especially during World War 2. The original oxygen green paint is still intact along with a red US Navy inspection stamp.
This rebreather was found among other equipment owned by a US Navy Seal who passed away in 2020. This was stored in a barn for a number of years. This resulted in some dirt and debris accumulating inside the metal case. With a proper cleaning this would be a museum worthy example.
Entire unit weighs approximately 15 pounds. It measures 21 inches tall and 14 inches wide. Vintage oxygen tank intact on the bottom, bladder or canvas bag present on inside of metal backpack, rubber hose present but brittle, canvas straps present, side tank present. Overall, quite an impressive piece of equipment!
