Description

PORTSMOUTH, NEW HAMPSHIRE LATE FEDERAL INLAID MAHOGANY SOFA, a fine example of a classic eight-legged form, featuring a low arched back, abbreviated wings, curved handholds, reeded baluster turnings, and inlaid figured maple/satinwood panels framed by checkered band. Currently upholstered in modern linen, with two pillows. Circa 1810. 35" HOA, 20" x 71" seat.
Excellent visual condition. Not examined under upholstery.
Literature: See Jobe - Portsmouth Furniture: Masterworks from the New Hampshire Seacoast, p. 375, fig. 105 for a highly similar example.
