AMERICAN FOLK ART CARVED BONE WHALING-RELATED ARTICLES, LOT OF TWO, comprising a scrimshaw-decorated shoehorn featuring a whale signed "M. J 1849" along the side next to "SETAUKET" within a ribbon cartouche for Setauket, Long Island, and a whaling log ink stamp having the head of a sperm whale carved to end. 19th century. 2" and 7 1/2" LOA.
Shoehorn in excellent overall condition with minor wear, surface scratches, and discoloration; stamp with usage wear, discoloration, sizable crack to end, and staining from ink.
Provenance: The collection of the late Theodore "Ted" and Alvina Breckel, Oley, PA and Winnetka, IL.
