"Sea Birds" by James Cortright, Beautiful Black and White Portrait

A large photograph, measuring 13.75" x 10.5" (sight) with a clipped signature, measuring 13.75" x 3" (sight), [Philadelphia], n.d. A black and white photograph of an elderly seaman, dressed in overalls and a bucket hat. In the background, over his right shoulder, are three sea gulls flying. The image, entitled "Sea Birds", is a stoic portrait, and the darkening clouds in the background lend a somewhat ominous or turbulent feel to the photograph. The clipped signed page is inscribed and signed, "To a Major Prophet and a Minor Saint/Gratefully James Cortright." Both the photograph and signed page have been matted together and framed to the overall size of 18.75" x 25". Light silvering to the photo edges. The signed page is lightly toned. Minor soiling to the mat, else very good.
