Brad Robertson (American/Alabama, 20th c.) , "Extreme Forces", mixed media on gallery-wrapped canvas, signed twice en verso, artist label with title on stretcher, 60 in. x 48 in., unframed. Note: Born and raised in Mobile, Alabama, Brad Robertson has found lifelong inspiration in the surrounding landscape of the Gulf Coast. Robertson’s use of bold color, texture and a compositional technique he refers to as “portals” propel his viewers into the abstracted shorelines, waters and trees of the region. He has said of his work: “My aim is always more to express a feeling more than a physical object." Robertson received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Auburn University in 1999, and after a brief stint in Atlanta, he returned to Mobile to focus on his painting career. Since then, his work has been sold in galleries from California to Florida, and he was named one of the Top 50 Emerging Artists of 2014-15 by Art Business News. In “Extreme Forces” offered here, Robertson explores depth and distance, as the cool blue of the background explodes in the center of the composition into a bold burst of color that both invites and challenges the viewer.
