American Late Classical Stenciled and Bronze-Mounted Mahogany Secretary Bookcase , 19th c., probably J.& J.W. Meeks, New York, upper case with molded cornice, arched frieze, Gothic glazed doors, shelf interior, Corinthian colonnettes, three small drawers, lower case with Gothic paneled doors, extensively fitted desk interior with center mirror and secret compartments, long drawer fitted with adjustable baize writing surface, over paneled Gothic cabinet flanked by Corinthian colonnettes, spreadwing eagle brackets, paw feet, h. 96 in., w. 56 3/4 in., d. 27 in., note: lacking toes. Provenance: Property of the Mobile Museum of Art, Mobile, AL, sold to benefit their Collections, Care and Acquisitions Fund.
