Francis Emritz Hamabe
United States,1917-2002
Includes one titled "The Adefaie Party" depicts a group of men and women socializing, and an illustrative lithograph depicting the blueberry festival in Machias, Maine. Hamabe enrolled at the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts and began a career in commercial illustration drawing cartoon vignettes for The New Yorker and Philadelphia Enquirer. In 1942 Hamabe joined the army, attending the Rhode Island School of Design after the war was over where he learned serigraphy, oil painting, and Japanese Sumi ink drawing, becoming a pioneer of silkscreen printing when he later moved to Maine. Frame 21 1/2" x 25 1/2"

Titled, dated, and signed "The Adefaie Party 1976 Francis E. Hamabe" in pencil along bottom edge, blueberry festival signed "Hamabe" in image.
