Description

ETABLISSEMENT POIRIER. Young Military Cadet, c. 1852. 3.6x2.8" daguerreotype (quarter plate) in 7x5.6" passe-partout. Etablissement Poirier studio label on mount verso.

The Poirier studio was a daguerreotype establishment located in Bordeaux at place de la Comedie from about 1850 and 1860. The company is listed in Voignier. The studio label provides the company name and address, which indicates that the company also produced paper prints and gave photography lessons. The daguerreotype is in original seals. The buttons, belt and leaves on the subject's collar really pop and are lightly gold toned, but you can still see all the detail.

Condition

Very good. Some tarnish around the edge of the plate, image unaffected. Glass passe-partout is cracked on the left side, but also well away from the image.
