Double-sided pencil drawing on tan-colored sketchbook paper, suprematist compositions, one drawing signed* with the artist's initials (Kasimir Malevich, 1878-1935), the reverse drawing, unsigned. 6 3/4 x 5 1/4 inches. Sold unframed.

Lot Note: This drawing was removed from a complete sketchbook which had been in storage for many years. The sketchbook sustained moisture damage while in storage. All of the pages were removed from the sketchbook and most were preserved, although many had to be trimmed to remove mold, etc. Some of the pages were beyond repair and could not be salvaged. The present lot is one of approximately 37 pages that was saved.

Provenance: Ex-collection Aleksandr Mikhaev, who worked with Nicolai Suetin as a ceramics designer in Leningrad, circa 1925. Suetin studied under Kasimir Malevich and presumably acquired these drawings from his teacher, circa 1920. This and other drawings were inherited by Mikhaev's grandaughter (San Francisco, CA) in the 1970s who sold them to the former owner, now deceased, in the 1980s. Thence by descent to the current owner.
