Item Details
Description
WWII Diving Helmet This Helmet Was Made By Arguably The Most Famous American Helmet Maker, The A.J. Morse & Son Company. Located In Boston, Massachusetts, Started Making Diving Helmets And Related Equipment In The 1830s.This Seldom Seen Shallow Water Helmet Was Made During The Late 1930s Or At The Very Beginning of WWll 21"H Helmet # 256 3885This was sent in a message: Thank you for responding to my question. I work for DESCO/ A J Morse & Son in Milwaukee. DESCO purchased the assets of Morse Diving in 2015 and we are trying to reconstruct the production records of both DESCO and AJMS for historical reasons. back in the day accurate record keeping was not a priority. Much was lost to time and we try and salvage what we can. I can tell you Morse Shallow Water Diving Helmet 3885 was made between 4/25/39 and 8/25/39. This we know because Morse numbered all their helmets in sequence and there were US Navy Mark V helmets made with those dates. The Mark V was the only helmet that routinely had a date stamped on their name tag so we use them as benchmarks. One of the assets we did receive in the Morse buyout is a mold to cast the shallow water weights. If you tell a potential buyer they are available that may help the sale. We cannot make a glass replacement window however. They are prohibitively expensive and suppliers want an order quantity that makes selling them impractical. We do sell a replacement window in Acrylic. Morse switched to Acrylic in 1948 so replacing this window with "plastic" is a correct fix. Your helmet has shown me that there was a run of SW helmets in that time period. The three digit number was the number of that particular SW helmet. Your helmet was the 256th Morse Shallow Water Helmet produced
