Description
Luis Jimenez (American, 1940-2006), Jiménez at Adeliza's Candy Store
lithograph in colors, 1983, pencil signed, dated, and numbered 2/40, copyright stamp at upper right, with full margins, framed.
Sheet size 30 x 22 1/4 in.; Frame dimensions 30 3/4 x 23 in.
Luis Jiménez was a Funk Art-movement sculptor and graphic artist who celebrated his Hispanic heritage and border-town upbringing through his artwork. Jiménez often incorporates Southwestern subject matter such as rodeo riders and vaqueros, saloon scenes, rearing horses, as well as Native American figures, presenting them in a clever, catchy, and often satirical manner.
Jiménez frequently draws himself into these scenes in the form of a seductive woman, as seen here. This is a 1983 poster for an exhibition at Adeliza McHugh's "Candy Store Gallery" in Folsom, California, where Jiménez's art was presented alongside other artist's work from the Funk Art movement. Based on our research, this is the first time this lithograph has been offered at auction.
Private Collection, Wilmington, North Carolina
