Description
An unusual American early ovoid stoneware crock with open loop handles with green brush marks on handle terminals and green flowers beneath the handles. The body is decorated with large green splotches on the front and back one possibly a tree with trunk on a grassy knoll but this decoration may have been a mishap from the poorly formed and dripped green glaze. Note the incised concentric lines beneath the slightly flared and irregular rim also decorated with green brush marks . 13 1/2"H x 13"W. Condition: One rim chips, many chips along the edge of the footed base, and 2 hairline cracks extending from rim - see photos for more details. Probably late 18th century. Provenance: From the James Becker collection, Walden NY.
