Wood-cut frontispiece, vi, [7]-251, [1]pp. 8pp. of advertisements before the titlepage. 5 full page wood-cut illustrations. Full leather (somewhat warped). A later edition of Weems' famed biography of Revolutionary War officer Francis Marion. The immensely popular biography of Francis Swamp Fox Marion, compiled from information supplied by Gen. Peter Horry and written by the famed parson Mason Weems. This book was the source of Marion's national fame, first published in 1809 and repeatedly expanded by its author.Weems, the early American biographer, is most famous for his apocryphal Life of Washington and this hagiographic portrait of the Swamp Fox, Francis Marion.
