Daphnis and Chloe tells the story of a pair of siblings on the Greek island of Lesbos who are separated at birth but unknowingly grow up together, raised by different sets of foster parents, and who eventually fall in love with each other. Over the centuries, the story has been adapted into a number of other mediums: opera, ballet, radio, and cinema.Longus is thought to have been a Greek novelist whose only known work is this one, though nothing is known about his life and some have questioned the validity of the name Longus.
