Translation by Jacques Vallette and introduction by André Maurois. Etchings by Jean Bruller. Bruller was a French writer and illustrator who also co-founded Les Éditions de Minuit with Pierre de Lescure, during the German occupation of northern France. He was a member of the French Resistance and wrote mostly fantasy and science fiction under the pseudonym Vercors.
