Description
MAC ORLAN, Pierre (1882-1970). Boutiques de la Foire. Lithographies de Lucien Boucher. Paris: Editions M. Seheur, 1926. Quarto. (9 x 7 1/2 inches). 144pp. with frontispiece and 36 colored lithographs by Lucien Boucher. The work is not paginated. Bound in original color-printed stiff wraps. Previous owner's bookplate. Very good example of this iconic illustration from the 1920s. Pierre Mac Orlan, born Pierre Dumarchey, was a French novelist and songwriter. He was a part of several Bohemian art circles in Paris in the early 20th century. He was a prolific writer who sometimes wrote under various pseudonyms, publishing absurdist tales, adventure novels, erotica, and songs. Lucien Boucher (1889-1971) was a wood engraver, lithographer and illustrator. He worked in all media of the graphic arts, but is best known for his wood-engravings and lithographs. He illustrated many books by famous French authors, and is a faithful delineator of the spirit of the text he was commissioned to illustrate.
