Chodor prayer rug, Turkmenistan, first half 19th century. Turkmen prayer rugs that display a distinct mihrab arch are rare and only a handful have been published in notable collections. Some later ones were made, but early ones are hardly ever seen. When they do appear, the earliest ones tend to be of Yomut or Chodor origin, as this one. Ertmen guls fill the main panel, all contained inside a diagonal lattice of small rosettes, Heavily ornamented panels appear at the top and bottom. Size: 4'2'' x 5'8'' (127 x 173 cm). Weight: 8 lbs. Material: wool pile, wool warp, wool weft.
