Description
A pair of mid-19th century Brazilian silver candlesticks, Rio de Janeiro circa 1850 by José Francisco Moreira (active 1837-58) Emperor Dom Pedro II (1831-89), each with octagonal bases with shaped aprons, the knopped columns with decorative bands, leading with everted circular drip pans. Marked to the bases with assay mark, assay master Francisco Victor Bennassi and maker mark IFM. (2) Height – 20.2 cm / 8 inches Weight – 621 grams / 19.97 ozt A pair of candlesticks by the same maker was sold Christie’s South Kensington, 27 Nov 2007, Lot 175 (£1,750 incl. premium)
