GEORGE NELSON (American 1908 -1986) A TEAK HEADBOARD, "Thin Edge," 1960s, of rectangular form and composed of two joined cabinet headboards centering twin hinged tops opening to storage compartments, above adjustable button tufted black cloth-covered backrests flanked by fall front doors with black enameled metal handles, opening to an interior fitted with a pivoting lightbox and two stacked short pocket drawers over an open compartment, above an exterior single shelf space and raised on three pairs of tapering square form ebonized wood legs, verso black stamped "5746 / 933-2," and "5746 / 932-2." Height: 39 3/4" Width: 92 1/2" Depth: 12 1/2" Note: Originally designed by George Nelson for Herman Miller in 1956. Provenance: From the Estate of Joseph Gregg, San Antonio, Texas.
Condition
Good condition with expected surface buildup, light scratches, scuff marks, small dings, chips, small corner of one glass panel has broken off from the pivoting light (piece stored in pocket drawer), fading, wear on ebonized wood legs, but sturdy and in good shape for furniture of this age, use, and materials. Electrical wiring appears to be original and is in good shape but should be brought up to date. Simpson Galleries strongly encourages in-person inspection of items by the bidder.
