A MING DYNASTY GILT AND LACQUERED BRONZE BODHISATTVA FIGURE ON DOUBLE LOTUS THRONE, CHINESE, 17TH CENTURY, the pierced five flames tipped diadem centers a medicinal elixir bottle amongst swirling scrolls and fastened on the sides with celestial billowing ribbons, over combed hair and lacquered brows happily floating over closed and downcast eyes, divided by a nose with curled nostrils over rose tinted smiling lips and a plump creased chin, flanked by pendulous ears suspending tapering floral pendants resting on royal robed shoulders above an elaborate beaded necklace, while seated in lotus position with hands composed into fear banishing Abhaya mudra and palms as well as pads of feet centering sacred symbols, over a double lotus throne with blossoming lotus top of gilt bronze triple layered petals with elegantly upturned tips reversing to red cold painted backsides, raised on a closed lotus bloom plinth of triple layered petals in red outlined parcel gilt carved wood ending on a green tinted ground. Good condtion with normal surface buildup, gilding wear in areas throughout, re-gilt spots, a few small losses, red painted areas possibly refreshed in the distant past, expected small dents and bends mostly on petals, some normal chips, gilding wear and age shrinkage cracks on wood plinth, expected casting holes on back, but overall in good shape, wear commensurate with age.
