Description
HENRY EVALUARDJUK (1923-2007) IQALUIT (FROBISHER BAY)
Dancing Polar Bear, c. 1980s
stone, 5.5 x 3.25 x 1.75 in (14 x 8.3 x 4.4 cm) signed, "HENRY / ᐃᕙᓗ ᐊᔪ".
Provenance
Ex. Coll. Harry and Marcia Klamer, Toronto;
Their sale, Waddington's, Toronto, 18 April 2005, Lot 245;
Acquired from the above by the present Private Collection, Toronto.
Henry Evaluardjuk carved a number of depictions of standing bears in his career in a multitude of mediums. With equal finesse to his large scale works, this more diminutive work shows the arctic animal striking a particularly interesting pose that is a charming mix of both dancing and scenting.
