Description
Extremely rare Ansonia Clock Co. United States Light House Establishment Clock in original octagonal oak case. This clock came from the Sandy Hook Lighthouse in Sandy Hook, NJ. Clock dates from the period that Charles W. Patterson and his sister Sarah Patterson Johnson were keepers between 1867 and 1885. Sandy Hook is the oldest operating lighthouse in America dating to June 1764. Most USHLE clocks were made by E. Howard, Howard and Davis, Chelsea Clock and Seth Thomas. The Ansonia examples are particularly rare. Clock dates to circa 1870. Comes with Paul Patterson's 1919 baby picture, a copy of his WWII Naval service record, a folk art wood carving of a sailing ship, and a ship in a pinched bottle.

Dimensions are: Clock: 9 inches tall X 9 inches wide X 3 3/8 inches deep; 22.86 cm tall X 22.86 cm wide X 8.57 cm deep. Naval record: 14 1/2 x 12 1/2 inches; 36.8 cm x 31.8 cm. Framed ship: 9 1/8 inches tall X 12 3/4 inches wide; 23.17 cm tall X 32.38 cm wide. Bottle with ship: 4 1/2 inches tall X 7 3/4 inches wide; 11.43 cm tall X 19.68 cm wide. All measurements are approximate.
Condition
Age wear to face of Ansonia clock. Some fogging of the bottle glass. Framed ship is in need of cleaning.
