Description
**First Time At Auction**

Southeast Asia, Indonesia, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A beautiful trio of hand-carved handles from ceremonial kris (keris) swords, 2 made from wood and 1 from a bovine bone. The first is an anthropomorphic figure squatting over an intricately carved pedestal. The figure's face is slightly tilted with a grinning mouth and an elaborately carved coiffure. The next is made of bone and carved into the shape a woman's body with a ferocious dragon face. The body is nude from the waist up and the mouth is wide open showing fangs and a long tongue. The last is a wooden barong figure, crouching on a rounded knob with legs tucked against the creature?s body. The face has a toothy grin, stub nose, and bulging eyes. The scrolling coiffure cascades down the creature's back. A lustrous patina has formed across these handles from use and touch and creates a wonderful presentation! Size largest handle: 4.5" L x 1.675" W (11.4 cm x 4.3 cm); 6.5" H (16.5 cm) on included custom stand. Bone handle: 4" L x 1" W (10.2 cm x 2.5 cm); 5" H (12.7 cm) on included custom stand. Smaller wood handle: 3.8" L x 1" W (9.7 cm x 2.5 cm); 5.25" H (13.3 cm) on included custom stand.
