574 pp. Frontispiece portrait. 24.4x16 cm (9?x6?"), period half leather & mottled boards.
A Franciscan priest born in Mexico in 1679, Espinosa participated in the early exploration and settlement of what is now Texas. The Handbook of Texas notes that "His contributions as a chronicler of early Texas history are without peer. Dubbed 'the Julius Caesar of the Faith in New Spain,' because he worked by day and wrote all night, Espinosa left a remarkable body of literature...." This seems to be earliest printing of the present chronicle. "en 1748" in ink on title page apparently an indication of the date it was written. OCLC locates ten copies. There are no auction records for the book that we could find.
