Title: Proceedings of the Electors of President and Vice President of the United States of America for the state of California
Place Published: Sacramento, Cal.
Publisher:California State Printing Office
Date Published: 1948
Description:
[12] pp. 34.5x21.5 cm (13?x8?"), printed wrappers stitched with string.
Scarce and timely document from the 1948 Presidential election, listing all of the electors from California and their choice (of Harry S. Truman) for the office of President of the United States, and for Alben W. Barkley as Vice President as well. Although the election was initially, and famously, called for Truman's opponent Thomas Dewey in certain media outlets, when the votes were fully counted Truman was duly elected, and there was no rioting in the streets, nor attempted insurrection. There are spaces in the document for oaths to be taken, witnesses to sign, etc., but these are blank. There are no copies listed for this year in OCLC and just a few copies of only the 1929, 1940, and 1964 elections.
