19th century coin silver cake knife, James Conning, Mobile, AL, circa 1860, having shaped and serrated blade crisply engraved with scrolls and repeating floral motifs, and tapered and threaded handle with engraved script monogram ''MED''. The back of the blade is undecorated. Maker's mark ''J.CONNING'' with ''MOBILE'' mark, both in rectangular cartouches to the back of the blade. 9-1/2''l. Total approximate weight 2.9 troy oz. Provenance: Heller Jewelry & Antiques, Chevy Chase, MD, 1984.
