Description

Early American cann, George Riggs, Baltimore, MD & Georgetown, VA, circa 1800, having double thread decorated lip, bulbous body, and spreading molded foot. The cast double scroll form handle is decorated with an acanthus leaf thumbpiece and has a cast seam down the middle. Flowing script monogrammed ''HEB'' on the body and the base is crudely scratch engraved ''ATH''. This silversmith's earlier known mark, ''Riggs'', in conforming cartouche inside foot. 5''h. Total approximate weight 10.6 troy oz. Provenance: Whimsy Antiques, Arlington, VT, 1976.
