**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Inca Empire, ca. 1200 to 1532 CE. An intriguing pair of pottery talismans shaped in the form of maize. The individual kernel nodules protrude slightly from the rest of the cob. These two pieces of miniature corn may have served a ritualistic purpose, such as offerings to gods or to be "planted" in the field to ensure a good harvest. Maize was invaluable for all pre-Columbian societies who relied on the crop. Corn could grow at higher elevations, ideal for the Andean dwelling Inca peoples! Lucite stand not included. Size: 2.75" L x 1" W (7 cm x 2.5 cm)
