Description
1863 dated "Ames" Artillery sabre and ninth plate tintype of a double-armed soldier in uniform. Both items are believed to have belonged to a Michigan soldier with the surname "Brown," an ancestor of the consignor. This lot is accompanied by a hand-written note of genealogical information that may lead to a conclusive identification.
Curiously, the yellow tinted piping in the image denotes the subject as a member of a Cavalry unit, but he holds an Artillery sabre (believed to be the one in this lot).
Sword/scabbard is in overall fine condition. Image is housed in a full leatherette case.
