Description
This whimsical oil on canvas is from California artist Frank (Franck) Caldwell. These nutcracker type soldiers are painted in the typical warm oranges and yellows of the late 1960s to 1970s. Painting is signed in the lower left. Frank or Franck Caldwell was San Francisco born to an artistic family which inspired him to involve himself as well. He was a teacher at Los Angeles City College and designed murals for the United States Marine Commission. Living in Los Angeles, he gravitated to the entertainment industry. He designed murals for theaters and television including for Perry Como. His art was featured in a Cannes film festival winner. He worked in several medias and gravitated towards vibrant colors. His works are not only featured in private collections but corporate collections around the world. 21.5" x 36.5" framed, 14" x 29.5" unframed.
Condition
Condition is excellent although foxing does show on the back of the canvas, due to the rich colors, it cannot be seen in the artwork.
