Description
ca. 1550–30 BC. Egyptian. A necklace formed of restrung beads of various colours with a green glazed faience amulet depicting the tyet knot, the symbol of the goddess Isis. A symbol of welfare and life, Chapter 156 of the Book of the Dead suggests that a tyet amulet be worn by the mummy to protect it with the power of Isis. The green colour often used for them represented the renewal of life like the cyclical growth of greenery.Provenance: Private London collection; formerly acquired in the UK art market from 1960s-80s collections.Size: L:240mm / W:mm ; 6.3g
