Description
Egypt, Late Period / Roman Period, ca. 716 BCE to 200 CE. This is a pale turquoise faience pendant in the form of a lion strung as the center of a necklace with ancient banded agate barrel beads interspersed with ancient round stone beads and modern 14k gold beads. The lion head symbolizes Sekhmet, an important goddess in the Egyptian pantheon, who is associated with war, healing, and the sun. The blue color of the amulet and beads is symbolic for water, rebirth and strong regenerative powers. This necklace is a beautiful example of Egyptian artistry and the colors that would have made ancient Egyptian life bright. Size: 18" L (45.7 cm).
