Lot of Japanese 19th century books, mostly textbooks, woodblock printed on double-leaves of ricepaper, with traditional Japanese bindings, many of them featuring illustrations:1. Fukuzawa Yukichi, Seiyo ishokuju (Western ways of living: food, clothes, housing, 西洋衣食住), Edo, 1867. 1 volume. Featuring many woodblock illustrations. 15.7 cm. Good condition (missing paper label on cover, very small worming holes to last few pages and cover).2. Fukuzawa Yukichi, Kinmo Kyuri Zukai, (Illustrated Books of the Physical World, 訓蒙窮理図解), Tokyo, 1868. 3 volumes. Featuring many woodblock illustrations. 18 cm. Good-fair condition (wear and minor flaws to cover, slight stains). 3. Two English textbooks: *Eigo Kaitei (英學階梯), by Kaisei-jo (school of foreign studies set up by the Shogunate during the Edo period), 1866. English and Japanese. 21. cm. Good condition. *Graduated Reading, lessons in English, reprinted in Edo in 1867, written by James Legge and printed in Hong Kong in 1864. 18 cm. English and Japanese. Fair condition (slight worming to first two pages).4. Gunji Shohten Jo (Small military dictionary, 軍事小典), 1868. 2 vols. A textbook for the students of Japanese Naval Academy. 13 cm.
