After many years as a commercial artist in New York, NY, he moved to Cape Cod in 1973 to concentrate on painting. His brush captured the strength and vitality of Cape shore lines, salt marshes, and the charm of old Main Street houses. His oil paintings expertly reflect the Cape serenity and strength.Robert A. Hitch was a member of the Allied Artists of America, the Hudson Valley Art Association, the American Professional League, the Copley Society and the Cape Cod Art Association, where he was a member of the regular teaching staff, and a member of the Board of Directors.Included in his many awards was the Henry Ward Ranger Prize, National Academy Design, Grand National Award,American Artist Professional League, Flanders Award and awards from the Cape Cod Art Association in Memebers and Open Juried Shows.
