Poll Book from Revolutionary War Period Plymouth 42 pages!
[REVOLUTIONARY WAR.] Andrew Croswell, William L. Barron, and Thomas Wethrell, Autograph Document, "A List of Polls & Values of Estates, Real & personal in the Town of Plimouth. Taken in June 1783," June 20, 1783. 72 pp., writing on 42 pp., 4" x 6.25". Bound with string; approximately half of last leaf missing but no evidence of lost text; very good.
During the Revolutionary War, Plymouth assessors Andrew Croswell, William L. Barron, and Thomas Wethrell assessed poll taxes on 498 persons in the Town of Plymouth, Massachusetts, and valued the total property in the town at £53,176. They divided the alphabetical entries among the Plymouth District, the Middle District, and the Ponds District.
Listings include those of the Estate of Colonel Theophilus Cotton, who led the Plymouth County militia, valued at £812 in real estate and £60 in personal estate; President of the Provincial Congress James Warren, whose wife Mercy Otis Warren was a prominent poet and playwright, with real and personal property valued at £1,180 and £100 respectively; Continental Army surgeon James Thacher, with personal property valued at £14; and hundreds of others.
