H. Dale (active 20th century) "Tlingit Dancer," ca. 1982 CE. Signature, date, title, and edition 16/18 on the base. A lovely bronze sculpture of a Native American dancer with a flowing garment with twisted wire hems and an intricate headdress. The Tlingit man is standing on an integral square base that is signed by the artist with the title, date, and edition number; this pedestal is secured to a lovely and sturdy marble base. The dancer is dynamic, leaning forward with his arms outstretched with the chilkat blanket draped over his shoulders and a skirt around his waist. The chilkat features low relief traditional patterns and creates a nice sense of movement with the attached wire tassels. From the right hand is an intricate raven headed finial. Upon his head is a rectangular headdress with two avian faces and thin wires protruding from the top. Two rows of animal pelts, perhaps otters or weasels, hang from the headdress and across his shoulders. The intricacy and energy of this piece is so captivating!
