Description
Cuban work, the distinctive hilt with horn grips, the fingerstalls and hooked pommel known as the “Guanabacoa” type (after the township in eastern Havana) with rare recurved guard. Mounted with a broad, straight, single-edged blade with angled tip. The tooled leather scabbard with brass chape stamped LUCKHAUS & GUNTHER/ REMSCHEID with the Agnus Dei mark. Late 19th century. Well worn, losses to leather. Luckhaus & Gunther produced blades for Cuba beginning in 1895, the first year of the final Cuban War of Independence. Overall length 84.3cm. Condition III
