Description
This is a handsome estate found original watercolor painting by American artist James Sanford Hulme (1900-c1980). He was born in Oklahoma and studied at the Art Institute of Chicago with Elmer Forsberg, whose specialty was print media. He also studied at the Grand Central Art School and took etching and lithography from George Bellows and Joseph Pennell. He served on the faculty of the Chicago Art Institute and then went to New York City to work as an illustrator. He is best known for his painting of landmarks around the New York City area. This painting is signed by the artist and titled "Welding Barge". It features a barge in a New York City Dock. - The matting is 23 3/4 x 20" with a sight view of 14 3/4 x 10 1/2". The paper is 15 1/2 x 11 1/4"
Condition
In overall very good condition consistent with age. Light toning and foxing. The watercolor paper is taped to the matting along the back edge borders. The edges of the painting paper are somewhat uneven as small bits of the tape can be seen around the border edges of the matting. The matting exhibits dings, tears, and losses. Please examine the images for the best indication of condition.
