Description: This is an antique Japanese woodblock print of ukiyo-e by prolific print artist Toyohara Kunichika. The print is likely showing an actor or historical or mythological figure. Above the portrait of the warrior or samurai, who has two swords, is an inscription, likely a poem. The poem is related to the subject shown in the print. The kimono of the man has a colorful swallow print on it.
Signed: Toyohara Kunichika in cartouche in lower left side of print. Small inscription next to that.
Circa: 1870s
Dimensions: 14.25x9.75 inches.
Condition: Some toning on paper, and some wear on edges and corners of paper. Inks are incredibly vibrant and bright. No tears, rips, pinholes, insect damage, foxing, or creasing!
Provenance: From the estate of a local retiree, whose grandfather collected Ukiyo-e prints throughout the 1930s.
