Rare, beautiful reprint copy of the notable History of Los Angeles County by Thompson & West, 1880. Published by Howell-North, Berkeley, California, 1959. Tight copy of this hardbound book in black totals 192 pp. The illustrations alone justified re-publication with 88 pages of lithographic plates. The original of this volume is very rare and mostly unattainable. According to the preface, "Los Angeles of 1880 was a small town surrounded by farms, orange groves, vineyards, cattle ranches and occasional settlements". Thompson and West compiled a series of California books of different counties from 1876-1892. Includes history of the Missions, the Mexican period of control, early society, pioneers, agriculture, and townships ranging from San Gabriel to Santa Ana.
