Description
Political
1870 Liberty, Missouri "Democratic MASS MEETING!..."
October 27, 1870-Dated, Printed Political Broadside, "Democratic MASS MEETING!... For the purpose of nominating a candidate for the Legislature from this county....", at Liberty, Missouri, Fine.
An impressive historical Western Political item. This rather dramatic original Broadside measures 18.5" x 10.75" that is boldly printed in deep black ink on green-colored period wove paper in a vertical format. It has some water stain along its wide margins at right, somewhat rough corners at top right and bottom left and a few minor holes and edge chips likely from actual prior posting, yet its print is dark and clear. The Democrats rebounded in the 1870s and were resurgent in the South and border states in the years following the Civil War. This Political Broadside reflects the dogged attempt of the local "Democratic Central Committee for Clay County" to put forward their Candidates for the upcoming election. .
