Chinese Tang Dynasty Terra Cotta Court Lady Figure swaying to one side with elaborate coiffure and hands inside her sleeves; light incised details to clothing and face. Height 14 3/4 inches (37.5 cm.). PROVENANCE: Estate of Paul W. Doll, Jr. (1926-2020), Toxaway, North Carolina; formerly a New York Stockbroker, Dolls's collection was mostly Medieval and Renaissance Works of Art that was sold by Christie's, New York after his death. In publicity for the sale, Christie's says that Doll bought from the best dealers looking for Royal provenance and rarity. He retreated to the Appalachian Mountains with his art in the 1970's where his collections remained mostly unknown until his death in 2020. Little is known about his collecting of Chinese art.
Condition
Most of the surface coloring is gone. a damage to the left and top back of the hair with cracks, the figure a little top-heavy from dirt deposits to upper half of hollow interior.
