Importante studio sull’Islam dell’eminente storico e teologo tedesco, che produsse anche una fondamentale storia della Riforma e notevoli ricerche sulle eresie dualistiche del Medioevo la prima storia moderna, ritrovandone le origini lontane, attraverso pauliciani e bogomili, nell'antico gnosticismo e manicheismo. Fu tra i maggiori oppositori alla proclamazione del dogma dell'infallibilità pontificia e nel 1871 fu scomunicato.

First Italian edition. Important study on Islam by the eminent German historian and theologian, which also produced a fundamental history of the Reformation and considerable research on the dualistic heresies of the Middle Ages, the first modern history, finding its distant origins, through Paulicians and Bogomils, in ancient Gnosticism and Manichaeism. He was among the greatest opponents of the proclamation of the dogma of papal infallibility and in 1871 he was excommunicated.
