**First Time At Auction**
Southeast Asia, Philippines, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A large hand-carved wooden Virgin Mary figure delineated in a manner indicative of Spanish Colonial influence. She stands in flowing robes, with a cape around her shoulders, and her arms, which are completely covered with large sleeves, across her chest. She stares forward with sensitive eyes, a petite nose, and thin lips, her lovely visage beneath a four-pointed crown. The surface has traces of the blue, red, white, and yellow pigments that once further embellished this piece. Size: 4.5" W x 12.125" H (11.4 cm x 30.8 cm)
Provenance: estate of R. Pearson, Denver, Colorado, USA; Mr. Pearson collected from the third quarter of the 20th century until he passed away.

Abrasions and losses on verso. Stable fissure on right shoulder to arm. Surface nicks, abrasions, and chips to high pointed areas. Chipping and fading of pigments. Felt pad attached to base for stability.
