18th century oil on canvas of scholar preaching to pupil. Domenikos El Greco (1541-1614) "The Greek" is what they called the painter in Toledo, Spain. Real full name is Domenikos Theotokopoulos. Schooled in Venice and Rome perhaps with Titain and Tintoretto. He is known for beautiful hands which is regarded as the hardest part of the body to execute. Excellent later example of his work circa 1760-1780. Was relines in the 1840's. Provenance: The Collection of John J. Singer, hence y descendance. Fine Molded frame.
