Description
Manufactured By Charles Bailey Cobalt, Connecticut - Early 1880's Provenance: Ed Mosler Collection Pristine Condition with Great Patina Before he took command of the Design Dept. at J. & E. Stevens, Charles Bailey made a small group of exquisite toy banks cast in lead. These include: the Springing Cat, Chinaman in Boat, Darkey Fisherman and the Baby Elephant. This latter piece was the smallest of these creations, and yet, the level of detail is truly unparalleled. The long front side of the bank is detailed with an image of the elephant dangling a boy above the mouth of a snapping alligator. The boy bemoans the fact that he did not feed any pennies to his toy bank and now he fears for his life. This represents one of the finest examples of this rare bank.
