Knute Heldner (1875-1952, Swedish/New Orleans), "Singing by the Mississippi River," oil on canvas, signed lower right, presented in a wood frame, H.- 39 3/4 in., W.- 31 1/2 in., Framed H.- 43 1/2 in., W.- 35 1/2 in. Note: This is a rare painting by Knute Heldner of African Americans singing at the market from Algiers, with a view of the St. Louis Cathedral in the background. His paintings can be found at the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art in New Orleans, the Louisiana State University Museum of Art in Baton Rouge, and the Historic New Orleans Collection. Provenance: Property from Gentleman Collector, Lower Garden District, New Orleans, Louisiana.
