19th Century Military Battle Scene Watercolor Drawing. Artist signed Henry Rock. Titled "Death of Captain Walker". Rendition of an illustration in Phillip Borbecks, "Rouph & Ready" Philadelphia 1849 Almanac (included). Samuel Hamilton Walker (February 24, 1817 – October 9, 1847) was an American army officer. He served as Texas Ranger captain and officer of the Republic of Texas and the United States armies. Walker served in several armed conflicts, including the American Indian Wars and the Mexican-American wars. Walker is best known as the co-inventor of the famous Colt Walker revolver, along with arms manufacturer Samuel Colt. Walker was killed on October 9, 1847, at Huamantla, in Tlaxcala, while leading his troops in the Battle of Huamantla during the Mexican–American War. In a period mitered frame, 10" square overall. Condition: Good with foxing and toning.
