3rd-7th century AD. A group of carved stone gaming pieces, possibly for a board game, comprising mainly domed discoid or plano-convex shapes and a variety of types of stone. See The Metropolitan Museum, accession numbers 36.30.5 and 36.30.6, for similar examples. 154 grams total, 20-28mm (03/04/2001"). From an important North West London collection; acquired in the late 1980s-early 1990s. Chess and backgammon are both attested in Iran by the late Sassanian period. [10]
