Description
2nd millennium BC. An expertly carved tubular schist vessel with flared rim and base. Cf. Ali Hakemi, 'Kerman: the Original Place of Production of Chlorite Stone Objects in the 3rd Millennium BC' in East and West, Vol. 47, no. 1/4, December 1997, pp.11-40, figs.3 nos.4, 7 and 8. 136 grams, 86mm (3 1/4"). Property of a London collector; from her family's private collection; formerly with a London gallery; acquired in the 1990s. The cup belongs to group B of Kerman vessels. The category includes tall conical or cylindrical vessels with out-turned lips. In some cases the vertical sides have a slightly concave exterior. Some of the vessels have a thick body, increasing in diameter from the base to the top.
